ROCK LAB

YOUR BAND. YOUR WAY.

Rock Lab puts teens and adults into real, ongoing bands that rehearse every week with a professional musician, build a set, perform live regularly, record music, and develop their own identity.

No short-term session. No one-and-done showcase.

Your band keeps rehearsing, performing, recording, and growing together.

ONGOING BANDS • WEEKLY REHEARSALS • REGULAR LIVE SHOWS • RECORDING STUDIO ACCESS

REHEARSE EVERY WEEK

WORK LIKE A REAL BAND.

Meet every week with the same bandmates and an experienced professional musician who helps guide rehearsals, arrangements, song choices, and performance preparation.

You’re not just learning individual parts. You’re learning how a band actually works.

✓ Build and expand a real setlist
✓ Learn how to rehearse efficiently
✓ Develop timing, listening, dynamics, and communication
✓ Solve musical problems together
✓ Grow tighter as a band over timeLearn to listen and collaborate

BUILD A BAND

NOT JUST A SETLIST.

Create Something That Feels Like Yours.

Pick a name. Develop a look. Take band photos. Build a website. Create social content. Learn how bands promote themselves and connect with an audience.

Rock Lab gives interested bands the opportunity to explore the creative side of being a working group — not just the music.

✓ Develop your band’s identity
✓ Learn basic branding and promotion
✓ Create social media content
✓ Build a simple band website
✓ Learn how musicians promote shows and projects

RECORD YOUR BAND

GET INSIDE THE RECORDING PROCESS

Rock Lab bands have access to RSOG’s recording studio and can learn what happens when music moves from the rehearsal room into a recording environment.

Record a live performance. Track a song. Listen back critically. Learn how arrangement, tone, timing, and production affect what the audience hears.

✓ Record songs and live sessions
✓ Learn basic studio workflow
✓ Hear your playing from a completely different perspective
✓ Develop better arrangements through recording
✓ Create audio and video your band can actually share

PEFORM – THEN PERFORM AGAIN

THE STAGE IS PART OF THE PROGRAM

Rock Lab isn’t built around a single end-of-session recital.

Bands prepare for regular live performance opportunities throughout the year through RSOG Open Mic Nights, community events, school events, and other live shows.

The goal isn’t just to get through one performance.

It’s to become a better live band every time you step onstage.

✓ Build performance-ready sets
✓ Learn stagecraft and live communication
✓ Perform for real audiences
✓ Review what worked and improve the next show
✓ Gain confidence through repeated stage experience

NOT A SESSION. NOT A SEMESTER. A BAND.

A lot of band programs are designed around a short season: rehearse for a few weeks, play a showcase, and start over.

Rock Lab works differently.

Our bands are designed to continue.

Musicians rehearse together week after week, build a larger repertoire, develop chemistry, perform repeatedly, record, and take on new projects as the group grows.

That continuity is where something important happens.

You stop feeling like a collection of students playing the same song.

You start sounding like a band.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS IN ROCK LAB?

Every band develops a little differently.

One week you might be tightening the rhythm section. The next you may be rearranging a song, working on harmonies, preparing for an upcoming show, recording a performance, or deciding what song belongs in the set next.

Depending on the group, musicians may also explore:

✓ Song arrangement
✓ Improvisation and solos
✓ Vocal harmonies
✓ Stage presence
✓ Recording
✓ Songwriting
✓ Band photos and video
✓ Social media and promotion
✓ Branding and logo ideas
✓ Building a simple band website

Your coach helps guide the process — but over time, the goal is for the musicians to take more ownership of the band themselves.

ROCK LAB + SKILLS TRAINING + COACHING

Build Your Skills

THEN USE THEM FOR SOMETHING.

Rock Lab is where musicians apply what they know in the real world.

Foundations, Core Skills, Modern Lead, and Individualized Coaching are where players continue developing technique, rhythm, fretboard knowledge, improvisation, and musicianship.

Rock Lab is where those skills get tested:

Can you hold your part while someone else is playing?
Can you recover when something goes wrong?
Can you listen and adjust?
Can you support a vocalist?
Can you make a song feel good instead of simply playing the right notes?

That is the difference between practicing guitar and becoming a musician.

Getting in a band through Rock Lab was a game changer, my daughter met some life-long friends, and they increasingly got to pick and perform songs they liked. Reading School of Guitar's Open Mic Nights have been some of my favorite as a parent and Reading resident, as they are fun for the whole family, and showcase the great talent our town has across the age span.

READY TO STOP PRACTICING ALONE?

Whether you’re a teen looking for the right musicians to play with or an adult who has always wanted to be in a real band, Rock Lab gives you the structure, coaching, rehearsal space, performances, and creative opportunities to make it happen.

You don’t need to already have a band.

That’s what Rock Lab is for.
